On October 9th, 2019, the Friends of the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library will hold their annual membership drive from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the main conference room of the Library.
This year’s guest speaker and performers will be Viol Consort String Ensemble who play a selection of baroque, classical, and romantic pieces for violin and flute. A brief interactive and informal talk will be provided prior to the performance which will provide an insight into the music and help attendees to gain a deeper appreciation for the selections.
Viol Consort String Ensemble has educated and performed before both national and international audiences in several venues including concert halls, festivals, museums, and classrooms with a goal to make art more accessible and understandable and to promote a cultural environment within the communities it plays, including the Rio Grande Valley. To that end, Viol Consort String Ensemble performs two concerts a year in McAllen, Texas.
In addition, all attendees will be eligible for a drawing for a gift card for dinner at a local restaurant and two tickets to an upcoming event at the University of Texas of Rio Grande Valley Performance Hall.
The Friends of the Edinburg Library is a private nonprofit organization. The association takes an active interest to enrich and enhance the library and community. They organize annual fundraisers and monthly book sales with proceeds going to the Library. They also sponsor special programs for children, teens and adults. In addition to that, the organization showcases various guest speakers during their monthly Brown Bag Luncheons. These informal gatherings are free and open to the public.
If you would like to become a member all you have to do is show up the day of the event, fill out a very simple application, pay your dues -checks or cash only- and enjoy refreshments while meeting interesting people, such as yourself, that value the library and giving back to the community.
