The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library invites the public to Exercise in Empathy & Objects of Presence, a poetry writing workshop and open mic event that will be conducted by Poet Laureate Edward Vidaurre free of charge to the community.
Poetry writing allows a writer great freedom; however, it also demands mastery of form, structure, and the ability to manipulate both to succeed. “This may sound like a daunting task, but not to worry, the writing workshop has been designed to teach the basics in a simple, concise fashion and make it fun for those in attendance to learn the craft of poetry writing” says Edward.
The writing workshop will provide the opportunity for participants to write their own poem, get feedback and perfect it before the open mic portion of the event. The writing workshop will take place from 3-5 p.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018. Participants will then have the opportunity to read their polished poem during the open mic event scheduled from 6-8 p.m. that same evening. The open mic event will be open to all poets interested in sharing their poetry.
For more information on this event and to sign up for the workshop, call the library and ask for Raul Martinez at 956-383-6246 or visit us at 1906 South Closner Boulevard in front of the historic Echo Hotel.
