Edinburg, Texas- Come celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with us! This national observance celebrated September 15th – October 15th is designated to recognize the contributions and culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States.
The celebration kicks off with a fun craft event for teens and tweens who will be painting terra cotta pots using Mexican designs. During the event teens and tweens will have a chance to learn about distinguished Hispanics artists such as Pablo Picasso, Rufino Tamayo, Salvador Dali and others. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18, from 6:00 7:30 p.m.
That same week the library welcomes Author Jesus Perez, who will be promoting his latest book El Mensajero / The Messenger. The book presentation and signing will take place on Thursday, September 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The celebration continues the following week with a very special Children’s event. Children will be treated to bilingual stories, a puppet show, crafts and refreshments. This event will take place Wednesday, September 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Continuing the spirit of Hispanic History Month, the public is invited to join the Art_ology class where they will create their own masterpiece following the Loteria style. This class will be taught by the Cultural Arts Manager, Mr. Magdiel Castle and is scheduled to take place Thursday, September 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The fun continues with a Noche Bohemia! Come and enjoy a night of music, light refreshments and best of all good company. The Noche Bohemia is scheduled to take place Thursday, October 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
And to close the celebration, the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library is proud to present: “Hasta en La Luna” A night celebrating Puerto Rican Culture & Identity in Texas. Those in attendance will be able to enjoy Art & Poetry by Mayra L. Martinez a Boriqua now living in San Antonio, TX. Photojournalism Presentation by Laura Sanchez-Martinez. A Craft Lesson throughout the course of the evening will allow patrons to take home a piece of significant history to share with friends and family. Cafe con leche and regional desserts to be enjoyed. This event is scheduled for Thursday, October 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
