Free Film Screenings, Panels, Workshops And More!

The South Texas International Film Festival (STXIFF) is back and invites you to explore the imagination of filmmakers from around the world. As expected, this year’s event will be more spectacular than ever.
To celebrate the visual arts, the City of Edinburg established the festival as a platform for artistic individuals to showcase their talent and express creativity. Since it’s inception, this event became synonymous with cinematic appreciation. With support from the City of Edinburg, the Edinburg EDC, the Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library, its Board of Directors and all sponsors, STXIFF has surpassed all expectations and established itself as a leading film festival in South Texas.
This year, the lineup for the 4th annual festival has been revealed and it includes 51 motion pictures written, directed and produced by independent filmmakers. After receiving many submissions, semi-finalists were selected by the Film Selection Committee and voted on by Industry Professional Judges. All genres and styles were accepted in the form of short and feature films. Finalists will be recognized and celebrated at the Awards Ceremony held during the final night of the Film Festival.
One main objective of STXIFF is to offer a look into the many stages of cinematic development and production. To accomplish this, a variety of industry related workshops and events are offered. Besides the customary filmmaker panel discussions, workshops in acting, screenwriting, cinematography and special effects makeup have been previously presented. The festival also offers “The Pitch”, a competition where screenwriters pitch their projects to a jury of film producers for a chance to win a prize.
As the lights dim and the title sequence roll, you will submerge into the minds of visual storytellers. You will wander through each scene that was carefully crafted through lighting, costumes, set designs, and camera techniques purposely set to create a new world. Like the famed director, Stanley Kubrick once said, “If it can be written or thought, it can be filmed.”
If you are an established professional, an aspiring filmmaker or a movie aficionado, you don’t want to miss this. Mark your calendar for STXIFF 2018, September 5-8, the festival will take place at the University Performing Arts Center, The Cinemark Bistro in Edinburg, and the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance. See you at the festival! For more information, please call the Sekula Memorial Library at 956-383-6246 or visit for more detail information about films and their schedule.
