The City of Edinburg and the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library invite the community to the 12th Annual Commemorative Memorial Day Ceremony scheduled for Friday, May 24, at 10:00 a.m.
The ceremony will include the reading of names of all service men from Edinburg who lost their lives in wars starting with World War I. Families of the fallen heroes, Lance Cpl. Dustin Michael Sekula, Sgt. Alfredo “Freddy” Gonzalez, Lance Cpl. Derek Hernandez, Spc. Mark Anthony Zapata, Sgt. Christopher Ramirez, Lance Cpl. Benito A. Ramierz, Pvt. Pedro Cano and Purple Heart Recipient & “Texas Hero”, Sgt. Francisco Barrientes, will be present. The melancholy sounds of “Taps” will be followed by the placement of a wreath in front of the library’s “Forever in Our Hearts” Wall of Honor by America’s Last Patrol.
Letty Leija, Director of Library and Cultural Arts, invites the community to this very moving ceremony. “It is important that we continue to remember and honor our Fallen Heroes and never forget their sacrifice for it is through their bravery that we continue to enjoy our freedom.”
After the presentation stay and enjoy light refreshments provided by HEB.
