The City of Edinburg’s Conceptos Dance Ensemble presents MATICES 2024 dance concert Friday & Saturday, May 3rd and 4th at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 7th at 3pm in the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium at 200 N. 7th Ave.
MATICES is a two-hour dance concert featuring the magic, charm, and excitement of Mexico’s music and dance, and also other dance genres such as clogging and contemporary dance pieces. With amazing dances, costumes, and music, the MATICES dance concert is a joyful experience for the whole family.
Edinburg Conceptos Dance Ensemble is under the artistic direction of Raúl Galván, supported by Cati Gómez. The ensemble is regularly seen at city festivals, events, and parades and hosts the RGV Dance Festival annually. Dancers range from high school age through adult. “Many of these participants simply love dance, and our goal in Cultural Arts is to find ways in which our citizens can continue to participate in the arts that they love, regardless of their background and from youth through adulthood,” says Magdiel Castle, Assistant Director for Cultural Arts.
Tickets for the concert are $10 for ages 10 years and up and are available online, at the door, from one of the Conceptos dancers, or at Sekula Memorial Library during regular library hours. Public parking is available in front of Edinburg City Hall. All funds raised through the MATICES concert support the dancers directly, so that costs can stay minimal.
Members of the 2024 Conceptos dance ensemble are Joceline Zapata, Carina Renee Cantu, Gabriel Rios, Flor Lopez, Tania Ramirez, Nancy Soto Favela, Kámilah Yaretzi Goitia, Ivelirne Hernandez, Arely García, Beny Lopez Jr, Ana Laura Mote Montoya, Sara Balderas Rodríguez, Cecilia Rocha, Guillermo Dominguez, Alex Serna, Deon Arevalo, Priscella Huerta, Adan Gonzalez, Ashley Quezadas, Eduardo Alfaro, Lucero Medrano, Yahir Orlando Ruiz Hernandez, Melissa Ochoa, Diego Rojas, Sofia Banderas.

There is no fee to participate and all costumes are provided. Participants provide their own proper dance shoes and support City of Edinburg Cultural Arts through performing and volunteering at city festivals and events. Regular attendance and participation in annual recital is expected. While this group is not intended for beginners, keep a look out for more great community arts programming from Edinburg Cultural Arts for dancers at all levels.
Edinburg Conceptos Dance Ensemble is under the direction of Raúl Galván, supported by Cati Gómez. Conceptos was incorporated into Edinburg Cultural Arts programming in 2023, after many years of supporting the City of Edinburg by participating in events and festivals.
