Memorial Day Commemorative Ceremony

The City of Edinburg Cultural Arts Department, in partnership with the Veterans Committee, invites the community to attend the Memorial Day Commemorative Ceremony on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Edinburg Auditorium located at 200 N. 7th Ave. Edinburg , Tx

Join the City of Edinburg for our Memorial Day Commemorative Ceremony, a meaningful gathering honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States.

This special event will feature patriotic presentations, guest speakers, ceremonial honors, and moments of remembrance as we pay tribute to our nation’s fallen heroes and recognize the sacrifices made for our freedom.

In conjunction with this ceremony, the City of Edinburg proudly presents “A Letter to the Fallen,” a writing competition for graduating high school seniors in Edinburg. This initiative invites students to submit an original letter expressing gratitude, remembrance, and the lasting impact of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The selected winner will have the honor of reading their letter during the official Memorial Day ceremony and will receive a $250 scholarship.

Competition Eligibility:
Open to graduating seniors attending high schools within the City of Edinburg

Submission Deadline:
Friday, May 15, 2026 by 5:00 PM

Submission Guidelines:

  • Address the letter to the Fallen Heroes

  • Minimum of 500 words

  • Typed, single-spaced

  • Times New Roman, 12-point font

  • One entry per student

  • Original, unpublished work only

  • No AI-generated submissions permitted

Judging Criteria:

  • Emotional Impact

  • Creativity & Originality

  • Clarity of Message

  • Connection to Theme
