City of Edinburg Honors Martin Luther King Jr. with Day of Service

The City of Edinburg invites residents of Edinburg and the Rio Grande Valley to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through service, reflection, and civic engagement during the annual MLK Day of Service.

On Monday, January 19, 2026, community volunteers are encouraged to participate in a morning service project at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery. This event reflects Dr. King’s enduring message that service, unity, and civic involvement are essential to building a healthy democracy.

MLK Day of Service – Restlawn Memorial Cemetery

The day will begin with a community cleanup project at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery, a historic site that holds deep cultural and historical significance in Edinburg. Volunteers will work together to preserve and restore the grounds, ensuring the cemetery remains a place of dignity, remembrance, and respect.

Service activities may include:

  • Raking and clearing debris

  • Mulching and trimming branches and bushes

  • General grounds beautification and restoration

This service project serves as a tribute to Dr. King’s vision of collective action and community responsibility.
