Private Erwin H. De Montel

Army, 382nd Infantry Regiment, 96th Infantry Division. PVT De Montel was killed in action from wounds sustained at the Battle of Okinawa on May 13, 1945. He is laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. His unit received a Presidential Unit Citation for Gallantry, determination, and esprit de corps in accomplishing its mission under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Purple Heart.
